Music Production

I am a Music Producer, Mixer, Audio Engineer, and Songwriter. I have a studio here in Los Angeles, that I have created all of my work for various projects both large and small for the last 14 years.

I like to focus on all aspects of music production (but can help out on any one aspect of it,) starting with:

Songwriting: If you don’t already have your song completely written and need help, we can collaborate/co write.

Pre Production: Get your song mapped out, arranged, do any programming, scratch tracks and have all of the parts and tempo figured out before we go into the studio. This allows us to be better prepared, and optimizes our time in the studio.

Engineering/Recording: Once the song is written and all the pre production is done, it’s time to go into the studio and record the basic tracks, Drums, Bass, Guitar, and Keys usually. I like to work quickly and efficiently, but more importantly really strive to get the best tones and performances possible for the genre of the song.Once the basic tracks are recorded, then we move on to doing the overdubs. Sometimes due to scheduling and budget constraints, we’ll just record drums, and overdub everything else at another time.

Mixing: Once everything is recorded, it’s time to start mixing! (My favorite part of the process) This is where the song comes to life and starts sounding like a record! It’s as much of a creative and artistic step in music production as anything else.

Guitar Player

Matt Playing Guitar at The Smith Center Las Vegas I’ve been playing guitar for over 35 years both acoustic and electric, and have a wide range of influences from Rock, Country, Jazz, R&B, Bluegrass, and Blues. Always having great respect for each genre, and striving to play the styles as authentically as possible. I know a lot of songs and can also quickly learn songs as necessary (for live gigs, tours, recording sessions etc.)

I have many years of experience performing live with artists like Jewel, Don Felder, Engelbert Humperdinck, and others. Whether it’s on tour or doing one offs, in a theater or arena (the Kremlin Palace being my favorite to date), or playing with a cover band in a small intimate club setting, I have done it all.

In the studio, I have a deep understanding of music production, guitar tone, feel, and what type of guitar parts are appropriate for a track.

Composer

I have been composing music for over 14 years. My work has been featured in various films, television and record projects. I started out as working musician (guitar) and that led me to writing music for television and film.

I compose many styles of music from Rock, Pop, Acoustic/Folk/Americana, Jazz, New Orleans, Rockabilly, Western Swing, Blues, Electronic, Hip Hop, to different ethnic and cinematic styles.

“I have worked with Matt for 10 years in both live and studio environments. In either case, he is the ultimate pro. He has engineered and produced 12 of my songs in the past few years, adding his considerable guitar talent to every song. His first “rough mix” is very often a keeper. His turnaround time is unprecedented and the quality is first rate.”

Bassist For Neil Diamond

“Matt Waldrum has produced many of my tunes including “All These Things That I’ve Done”, “Stairway To Heaven”, “Run To The Hills”, “The Show Must Go On” and my original song “Open Up”. (All available on iTunes).

He does such an incredible job. Not only engineers, mixes, masters if you are on a budget, but also takes care of all the guitars and has extensive connections to the best musicians around.

I love working with him. He listens to my needs as a vocalist which, as you know, can be so vulnerable. His ear is right on. He won’t ever let something slide by that you think sounds bad. And he listens to me about my opinions on his mixes. He fulfills even the most picky requests without a struggle and without ego. He does it all!!!!”

“Matt is also a musician so he understands the singer. He has been onstage creating music on the fly and he’s also written music specifically tailored to the artists that he works with. Because he’s spent over two decades onstage himself, he understands a performer’s story and he can spotlight a singer’s qualities. Matt knows how to bring out the best in his clients rather than overpower or overproduce them. I have recorded two albums with Matt because he’s fast, efficient, has a great ear, and always makes me look good!”
